Staying Motivated With Your Fitness Goals During a Pandemic

How are you doing with your exercise routine? It has been about a month now since the gym was required to close, which threw us all off of our regular schedule by forcing us to exercise from home. I’m sure it has been an easier transition for some more than others, but it’s important to not compare yourself to what you see or hear other people doing. It’s okay if it has taken you some time to get into a home workout routine or if you are still working on it. I want to share with you some tips for staying on track with your home workouts in case you are still struggling with it!

  1. Schedule a time to workout. I shared this in my recent blog post on being more efficient while working from home, but I am going to mention it again because it’s crucial if you are struggling to get your workouts in. Write in your calendar the specific block of time you are working out each day. If it has to be a different time each day, that’s fine, as long as it’s on the calendar!
  2. Check out our virtual classes on social media. We are doing everything we can to help you all stay on track by providing live classes and pre-recorded workouts on our Facebook and Instagram pages! If you haven’t checked those out yet, be sure to do so. If you aren’t able to get on the classes live, we are posting them to the page so that you can do them later as well.
  3. Involve the family. If you have kids or a significant other, get them involved in your workouts! Whether it’s going for a walk, riding bikes, playing outside or getting them to do one of our virtual classes with you, it’ll be more fun and give you something to do together as a family.
  4. Remember your why. It’s always important to revisit the reason why you exercise or why you want to exercise when you are lacking motivation. Really dig deep. Your first thought might be “to be healthier”, but why do you want to be healthier? Maybe it’s to be a good example for your family, or to be able to keep up with your grandchildren, or because you feel your best when you’re exercising regularly. Find that core reason why exercising is important to you, write it down if you have to, and look at it every time you are lacking motivation!
